The internship program in New York City offers a way to demonstrate intellectual leadership by taking a leading role in supporting the innovative programming of imagining global aisa (iga), a web-based international organization with roots in The New School. Interns are expected to develop public events working with institutional partners as applicable as part of two event series: Islam and the West, How They Understand Each Other in Media; Global Energy Forum 2007 - 2009.
Interns will be expected to work independently and with other interns, coordinating projects with the Director of Vision Logistics. As part of event development Interns will engage with a broad range of audiences, most particularly opinion leaders, educators including New School faculty, policy makers, and the general membership.
Internships are unpaid. A candidate must be an undergraduate student, a graduate student, or have graduated from college within twelve months at the beginning of the internship. Interns are expected to work between 10-15 hours a week. Internships are offered during the Summer, Fall, and Winter/Spring semesters.
Required Skills:
Knowledge of productivity software, internet navigation; ability to organize administrative projects; demonstrate clear and effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to meet deadlines and maintain a flexible schedule; strong diplomatic skills in dealing with people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds; awareness of and sensitivity to a variety of cultural perspectives; awareness of prominent global issues.
Primary Responsibilities:
Each Intern will be responsible for one or more of the following tasks depending on their abilities:
* Researching and developing original public events
* Creating, editing, and proofreading official documents and/or correspondences
* Creating new iga outreach material and updating material as needed
* Assisting in managing current contacts and identifying new outreach opportunities
* Writing and issuing iga monthly updates, press releases, media advisories, and action alerts for past and upcoming iga events
* Fostering relationships with Media and organizations that offer their services and support
* Updating public event video content on YouTube.com and other websites
* Submitting write-ups for events and activities
* Assisting in collaboration and design of marketing tools
* Attending iga events
